Well, we all probably know that this is the definitive Vietnam movie. Filled with powerful characters and explosive moments, it's the tiny details that make this movie deserving of all its accolades. While I can't pinpoint anything in particular, one just gets a feel of authenticity. My only slight gripe is that the plot really didn't have that much substance. Basically, we're just treated with a glimpse at the life of Joe Infantryman in the ‘Nam.

Not much in terms of quantity for extras, but we do get a great interview driven featurette about the making of this movie. There is also a photo gallery as well as the trailer and TV spots. But the real sweet extras here are the two commentary tracks. One, from director Oliver Stone is quite a listen as he recalls his real life experiences as they relate to the film. The other commentary is from military supervisor Captain Dale Dye. His too was fascinating as he talked more about the actors and the movie making process. Both tracks I consider great additions to this DVD.

This movie won a Best Picture Oscar and anyone can see why here.

The Movie: 10/10
The Extras: 7/10

Recommendation: One For The Library
