This movie had the unique concept of
integrating several different stories all into one. The actual film
work was executed wonderfully with good performances and exceptionally
articulated visuals. Captivating plot-lines stemmed from scenes
exhibiting energetic flare. But aside from the musical interlude, the
impact of each distinct part was mostly lost when woven together.
Powerful areas would surface, but would fail to be elaborated upon.
More disappointment came when the expected realization of the multiple
layers never occurred, leaving fragments of each story dangling. Their
separate resolutions then became somewhat boring. I couldn't help but
feel that in the end, this film's potential was left unfulfilled.
Coming in a two disc set, the few bonus materials found were all on
the second disc. These included, seventy-two minutes of entertaining
behind-the-scenes footage, two short and amusing segments with the
Frank T.J. Mackey character, a teaser trailer, the theatrical trailer,
nine TV spots and an Aimee Mann music video. No commentary.
Well intentioned for sure. But when assembled, simply did not equal
the sum of it's parts.
