Thanks to it's post-apocalyptic setting, this movie translates well all these years later. With some pretty imaginative camera views, all the road action somehow seems very real and menacing. The stunts as well stand out due to their sheer boldness. The plot on the other hand, feels shoveled together and lacks a little clarity. Also, some of the special effects betray it's low budget origins and feel out of place in today's cinema. However, what really counts here is the car action, and we get plenty of it, all executed marvelously.

This DVD, comes with a few extras including two heavily narrated featurettes. One, dealing with star Mel Gibson is rather dull, and the other about the film itself, is far more fascinating. There are also TV spots and a trailer as well as a very brief photo gallery. A trivia subtitle track gives us intriguing facts and a commentary too bestows interesting information. This commentary is voiced by art director Jon Dowding, director of photography David Eggby, special effects supervisor Chris Murray and film historian Tim Ridge.

Though made many years ago, and perhaps some parts feel dated, the film still succeeds in delivering wild action and dazzling thrills.

The Movie: 6/10
The Extras: 4/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
