This romantic comedy lacked two crucial
ingredients. Romance being one; you can guess the other. These
shortcomings were not for a lack of trying though. There were some
good bits. It's just unfortunate that when jokes missed in this film,
they missed big. After a decent opening sequence, this film never
found the appropriate tone. Potential supporting characters were under
utilized while the main ones eventually turned stale from
overexposure. A decent effort, as unrewarding as it turned out to be.
This double sided DVD set presented the film in full screen on one
side and in widescreen on the other. The extras, a short making-of
featurette, a fun Comedy Central program, four deleted scenes with
optional commentary and the film's trailer, were also separated onto
either side of the disc. A somewhat entertaining commentary track from
director Shawn Levy, actor Ashton Kutcher, and actress Brittany Murphy
was oddly found on both sides.
They may have gotten away without cuteness, but they floundered
without the laughs.
