Playing strongly on sentimentality, this
movie has become a beloved classic. Slightly offbeat, but paced to
perfection, it didn't need to make sense, for it was never grounded in
reality. From the get-go this fantasy was established as such.
Building on that, a great story was told, filled with a blend of
events not altogether surprising, but also not quite expected. In the
end, this movie hit the heart, without ever being a tear-jerker.
Bonus material included a lengthy and rather long-winded making-of
featurette, a huge quantity of production photos, information on fact
based characters, a copy of the script, cast and crew information,
conceptual art, production notes and the theatrical trailer. There was
also an informative commentary track from director Phil Alden Robinson
and director of photography John Lindley.
Magical not only described the mysterious plot, but also the viewing
experience.
