It's got everything a Bond flick would
have. High-tech gizmos, hot chick, exotic locales, and a Bond himself
(albeit more geriatric). Thrown in were some other elements, double
crossings, a shadowy figure (who's role is different every time he
pops up), and we would have a winner right? Wrong. The plot was so
shaky that Bond would forever have his martinis stirred. While
expected for this type of film, it just went too far beyond
believability. Tension also was kind of scarce since our stars were
only really in jeopardy near the end. But if you can look past that,
you will probably enjoy this one since there wasn't anything done
badly. Decent action, good effects, adequate performances, and
beautiful scenery can all be enjoyed in this movie.
The regular fare for extras here. We got a pair of deleted scenes and
a not-so-different alternate ending. Along with trailers, TV spots,
production notes, and cast information, there was also a short
interview-driven featurette. A commentary track from director Jon
Amiel was found as well, and struck a strange balance. While I didn't
find it entertaining, I didn't find it boring either. Of note, one
nice touch was the menu design. Pretty neat stuff.
A mediocre action flick, but hey, we'll love it for containing some
great Catherine Zeta-Jones scenes.
