While plot and characters were well
communicated, neither were overly impressive. A pointless romantic
angle and an ambiguously sympathetic protagonist only served to
highlight the film's failings. The light story left a taste of
predictability as cliché moments followed one another. But despite
those nominal flaws, this movie still amazingly entertained. The
novelty of marching bands was strong enough to carry the entire movie.
Placed strategically apart and married with effective camera work,
those scenes hooked the viewer into something special. The end result?
A satisfying film.
There were several extras found on this DVD. A decent
behind-the-scenes program was marginally interesting as were several
of the ten deleted scenes (with optional commentary) and two music
videos. An audio commentary from director Charles Stone III was a nice
addition as he shed light on movie making.
The spectacle of the performances stole the show and saved this film
from mediocrity.
