This was a film on par with today's strong thrillers. Very competent, but nothing really that special. The highlight was the mood it set, and that I felt, was due greatly to the set designs. It was that factor, along with good performances, which gave this film some credibility, and certainly not it's plot. With plenty of holes, one would question the characters' motivations at times. This, alas, was probably the sacrifice made to allow for all the twists and turns required for the modern movie. Aside from that, I found all the other elements done quite well.

There were some really good extras on this disc. Aside from the usual deleted scenes, making-of featurette, cast and crew info, and storyboard comparisons, there was also a set tour, interviews with the producers and director, a closer examination at several scenes, a multi-angle look at a scene, and a discussion about the thriller theme. Oddly, there was no trailer for this film itself, but one for ‘Wall Street'. For commentaries, there was a pretty informative one from director Gary Fleder as well as scene specific ones from each of the principle actors. These included, Michael Douglas, Sean Bean, Brittany Murphy, Famke Janssen and Oliver Platt. Each of them were focused on their respective characters and were quite interesting due to their relatively short length, thus not allowing the actors to stretch for anecdotes. While no one extra really stood out, as a package, it covered all the bases. It's rare for me to enjoy extras for a film I didn't absolutely love, so this sure was a surprised.

If you can absolve yourself from considering the plausibility of the story, you will be rewarded with a pretty good thriller. If, like me, you can't, you're just stuck with mediocrity.

The Movie: 6/10
The Extras: 8/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
