This latest Bond flick could very well
have had the most contrived storyline of the bunch. And that is saying
something. On the other hand, what does it even matter in this
ultimate escapist franchise, especially after some sensational
beginning-to-end action? In fact, there was so much activity that the
movie actually felt too long. Of course it didn't help by having the
most exciting sequence followed by a comparatively tired closer.
Still, after everything was said and done, there really could be no
denying this milestone installment.
The movie itself was found on the first disc along with the option for
a text trivia track and interview clips. Two audio commentaries were
also on this disc, one with director Lee Tamahori and producer Michael
G. Wilson and the other with actors Pierce Brosnan and Rosamund Pike.
Both tracks added only tiny anecdotes on the filming and were slightly
worthwhile listens.
Most extras for this two DVD set were found on the second disc.
Included, there were a lengthy but well polished behind-the-scenes
featurette, great multi-angle presentations of four action scenes, a
fascinating deconstruction of the title sequence, a mildly fun
examination of several gadgets, two storyboard comparisons, a look at
digital grading, a large collection of production photos, a music
video and it's filming, three trailers for the film, eight TV spots, a
promotion of a video game along with a peek at it's creation and
finally, several trailers for other MGM releases.
More bang, less reason, but the tradition lives on: babes, gadgets and
fun.
