This sequel succeeded quite well in
capturing again what worked - fun imagination and special effects.
Though the early scenes seemed to mostly serve as a reminder of the
first film, it also delivered a brisk introduction to a new adventure.
This time around, the entire plot was focused on the core mystery
instead of getting acquainted with the school. And as the story
advanced, the tension grew rather smoothly. However, the conclusion
brought a frustrated satisfaction since it wasn't as clever as
expected. I suppose the journey mattered more, and here it went a long
way with plenty of amusing excitement.
A two DVD set, the film was found on the first disc along with it's
trailer and a recap of the first installment. Being more kid friendly,
the second disc was heavily narrated and contained nineteen
understandably dismissed additional scenes, an interesting interview
with creator J.K. Rowling and screenwriter Steve Kloves, forgettable
clips from the cast discussing their roles, production sketches, a
video game preview, three fun tours of locations in the movie, a
pointless photo studio, a section aimed on one particular character
and several varied games. No commentary track was found on either
disc.
