I long awaited this Ridley Scott
directed war flick to reach me. A heavy stylized look to the film, and
glimpses of exciting gun fights had sold me from early glimpses. I'm
glad I didn't expect more, for this was a very one-dimensional movie.
Almost no time was spent with the large cast building character. They
all just got a quick profile, were thrust into the mess and became
difficult to differentiate later on. If you expected a drama, don't.
It's all about the heroes, the guns, and the striking visuals.
Not much for bonus material. Aside from a great making-of featurette,
there were trailers for other films, a filmography section, and some
production notes. No commentary track. Expect more from a newer
release coming out later.
Without being the epic the trailer seemed to promote, this was
nonetheless pretty entertaining, especially when you consider it's
authenticity.
