What a funny flick! Though obviously a
huge spoof of the spy genre, that template became secondary as this
movie weighed in with it's own bag of laughs. Layered together, there
was little room for failure. Characterizations in particular saw the
comedic roles played out well. In fact, many types of jokes were
visited and though presented repeatedly, they oddly never became
tired. The only problem, and it's a small one, was found in the pace.
With a style in which scenes generated their own momentum from
scratch, lulls could be found every once and again. But perhaps it was
by design. After all, consideration must be given to recovering our
breaths.
Just a few extras on this DVD. Here, they had, seven funny deleted
scenes (without comments), an amusing musical sequence, a section of
cameo appearances, cast information with some video clips, text on the
spy genre, and the theatrical trailer. A commentary from
star/writer/producer Mike Myers and director Jay Roach proved only
slightly informative but quite entertaining.
While an initial frame of mind is needed for most comedies, here when
they delivered, you just couldn't help but howl.
