With the sensitivities of the world
around us, I wouldn't expect any film coming out any time soon
venturing even close to the terrorist topics covered here. Better get
some while the getting's good. In this film, it was the sharp suspense
which kept things going as the mystery escalated nicely to an
inevitable revelation. Subtle stylizing too fit perfectly to build
anxiety and give it a modern flare. Fine characterizations also didn't
hurt. While I did find the conclusion much too centered on
circumstance, the final word somehow made the attempt worthwhile.
A few extras can be found on this DVD. They included a decent
making-of featurette, a thankfully unused alternate ending, cast and
crew information and theatrical trailers. A great commentary from
director Mark Pellington and star Jeff Bridges gave great detail on
their limits and their achievements.
Obviously borrowing from dated true events, it's pertinence can still
impact today's climate.
