First off, I got to say, I don't approve of the movie's third act. Not only was it vague, but it didn't feel like what the movie was driving towards. However, the first two acts were masterfully orchestrated by director Steven Spielberg and his crew. Every aspect, from wonderful performances, to seamless special effects, to unique set designs all helped to create a world which engulfed the audience in all it's glory. It truly was magical. Too bad for that ending though. One can appreciate the final word they were going for, it's just that they couldn't execute it properly. Still, nice try.

With a short and uninformative making-of featurette on the first disc, it's the second which contained all the real extras. Here, we found many short and interesting featurettes, each focused upon an aspect of the film. Subjects included, closer looks at two of the main characters, set designs, costume designs, lightning techniques, special effects, robot designs, sound effects, and music composition. A more in-depth look at the computer effects as well as animation was also provided. There was even a short piece from Spielberg himself discussing the film's concepts. Other, more run-of-the-mill extras found on the second disc were, trailers, TV spots, story boards, concept art, production photos, cast and crew info, and some production notes. No commentary track here.

Even with a questionable destination, I still recommend you enjoy the ride. There really aren't many like it.

The Movie: 8/10
The Extras: 6/10

Recommendation: Rent This One
