Imagine Lisa Kudrow rapping. If that image disturbs you in the least, stay away from "Marci X". If it doesn't really disturb you, then maybe you won't mind. I don't know what it is about the cast of Friends, and making movies. It sure is hit-and-miss - especially Kudrow. For every hit like "Anlalyze This", there's "Analyze That". For "Clockwatchers", there's "Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion". And for the critical success of "Wonderland", there's movies like "Lucky Numbers". You just never know.

So, it was with some hesitation that I sat down for "Marci X". Well, actually a lot of hesitation. This movie didn't even register last year. I remember seeing the poster for the movie. But I don't really remember it hitting theaters - which is usually a bad sign. Must've meant it was dead and buried on arrival. After seeing the movie, I understand why. Sure, there were a few funny moments - I even laughed out loud once - but for the most part this movie was just plain forgettable.

In "Marci X", Kudrow plays Marci Feld. Her father Ben suffers some heart problems when a right-wing senator (Christine Baranski) threatens to shut down his entertainment empire in the light of a controversial new CD by rap star Dr. $ (Damon Wayans). So, Marci takes it upon herself to try and persuade the good doctor to change his image. The two fall in love (bizarre), Kudrow raps (even more bizarre) and there's some odd (although comical) anal sex talk. (Does it really mean to love with respect? I'll have to tell my girlfriend that!) No wonder this one was swept under the rug. If it was so bad, why did I laugh out loud? Some of the rap songs had funny titles. "I'm the King of your Mouth". "It's Not My Baby 'Cause I Don't Like You". How can you not laugh at that?

For this DVD release, there weren't even any special features - just some previews for some other Paramount releases.

"Marci X" really isn't a movie that I can recommend. It may have had some charming moments, but they were overshadowed by a weak story and weak performances all around. You can only hope that after Friends goes off the air this year, Kudrow can focus her efforts more on the big screen so she can churn out more hits, and fewer misses.

The Movie:  2/10
