The toy-box gang returns in this sequel
that is superior in some ways to the original, but as with most
sequels, can't quite match the originality. This time around, Woody is
'kidnapped' by a wicked little toy collector and the gang, led by
Buzz, attempt to venture out of the house and rescue Woody.
A few new characters are introduced (which is a good idea for any
sequel) such as Jessie the Cowgirl, Bullseye the Horse and Stinky Pete
the Prospector. Oh, and of course Buzz Lightyear's arch rival, Zurg.
(This subplot between Buzz and Zurg is hilarious.)
As mentioned, "Toy Story 2" doesn't quite capture the
originality of its predecessor, but it makes up for this with a better
story and, dare I say, action sequences. The scene crossing the street
actually had me gripping my arm chair. It is just as entertaining as
the first movie.
DVD and animated movies go hand in hand, with superb visual and sound
quality. The "Toy Story" movies are testament that movies
should be filmed in digital format.
Again, I watched the basic edition of "Toy Story 2", so the
special features are limited. There is the original Pixar animated
short, "Luxo Jr." and the now famous 'outtakes' from the
movie, an excellent bonus feature in the Disney computer animated
movies.
I recommend purchasing the edition that contains more of the special
features, if it exists... I haven't seen them myself, but Disney
usually puts out high caliber products. Perhaps that is why they are
the giant they are today.
