Ah, good old Remo Williams. An action movie that was made back in the day when fight sequences weren't a computer generated blur. Even though action movies are superior today, I found it a relief to walk down memory lane and watch Remo Williams, a movie that I enjoyed as a wee youngin'.

Remo Williams was originally released in 1985, and I think had the intention of being followed by sequels, the subtitle being "The Adventure Begins". Obviously, it didn't take off as expected. The movie is about a small, top-secret government agency that is above the law when punishing criminals. No, it does not star Steven Seagal, but rather Fred Ward plays the protagonist. Remo Williams is recruited by the agency and is to be trained by a martial arts expert. An emergency arises and Williams is forced into duty before he is not fully trained. And the movie continues.

Even though it's a little dated, Remo Williams still entertains, particularly if you have nothing to do on a Sunday morning. Fred Ward is an amiable underdog, Joel Grey plays the humorously entertaining martial arts expert, and Kate Mulgrew (who doesn't look a day older in any Voyager episode) is the pseudo love interest. These characters, put into a light-hearted plot, make a satisfactory movie.

The DVD edition I watched was standard format, so if you prefer widescreen, you might have to search for it. There are no special features offered - only a theatrical trailer. The DVD quality is, well, as good as it can be from a mid-budget 80's action movie.

Overall, Remo Williams is a likeable movie from the 80s. It would be a good addition to your DVD library if one day everything else in your collection is too familiar.

The Movie: 7/10
The Extras: 1/10
