Behind-The-Scenes
Featurette, Feature Commentary With Writer/Director J.T. Petty,
Cast Auditions
|
Ah, one of those low-budget films that
has the hope of getting noticed. Mimic Sentinel probably won't.
However, it is stylized and has creative visuals thanks to
writer/director J.T. Petty, who has the potential to move on to bigger
and better projects.
Petty's style reminded me a little bit of David Fincher. That being
said, Petty obviously makes Mimic Sentinel bearable to watch. I didn't
think the first Mimic was anything special - especially not enough to
warrant two sequels. So of course I was skeptical about seeing the
third one. But it wasn't half bad.
It plays out like Hitchcock's Rear Window, with a voyeur taking
pictures of his creepy neighbourhood. However, Marvin the photographer
stumbles upon a murder or two and with the help of his sister and an
attractive female neighbour, they uncover giant bugs getting ready to
infest the world. If I explain any more then I'll have told the entire
movie, seeing as how it is only 74 minutes long.
The special features are amusing. Cast auditions are always a neat way
to see how the actors landed their roles. The behind-the-scenes
featurette is actually rather funny as the Special Effects Coordinator
Gary J. Tunnicliffe is the target of a few jokes. In turn, the sense
of humour carries over into the commentary with Petty, making it a
worthwhile listen.
