Bubba Ho-Tep revolves around Elvis and JFK (Bruce Campbell and Ossie Davis respectively), the members of a retirement home in a small Texas town, who battle against a soul-stealing Egyptian mummy. Yes, you read that correctly. Ossie Davis is JFK. Bubba Ho-Tep offers campiness in the extreme, and it is fairly entertaining if you like wacky movies. If you don't, you might want to stay clear of this one.
The film works because after a while, you accept that Elvis and JFK are who say they are. The action isn't over the top, which is good because the heroes are geriatrics. Bruce Campbell does a great job (as always) as an old Elvis, and his first line in the movie is one of the funniest things I have ever heard. It caught me off guard that I pretty much fell off the couch. A fun movie with some laughs, one can bet Bubba Ho-Tep will no doubt enter the world of cult films.
The DVD I reviewed didn't even have a menu screen let alone special features, but when the DVD is released in stores, the special features might be something interesting to check out.
