Having never been the biggest Ashley Judd fan, to say that I wasn't really looking forward to Twist is a bit of an understatement. Is it just me, or is she exactly the same in every role she plays. There's no acting there. Maybe bad acting, but she always plays the exact same annoying character - just in different stories. So, yeah - a little hesitant.

This time around, Judd plays an alcoholic cop who's investigating a series of murders that all involve her ex-lovers. Not ex-boyfriends, just ex-lovers. That's right boys and girls - she sleeps around - a lot. The movie also stars Andy Garcia as her partner (yes she sleeps with him) and Samuel L. Jackson as the police commissioner (it's unclear as to whether they've slept together, but it certainly would expain her rise through the police ranks). Actually, her father and mother fell victim to a murder/suicide - the reason for her elbow problem - and the commish took her under his wing. Of course, she's the prime suspect and it's up to her to clear her name and find the real killer, or to stop sleeping around before there are any more murders. The result is yet another dull addition to Judd's acting resume.

So how is this role the same as every other role? I'm thinking that's why they called the movie twisted. It's the same thinly veiled character she's always played with a twist - an alcohol and sex problem. Twisted for sure.

For extras, this DVD offers a commentary by director Philip Kaufman (the man behind The Right Stuff), 3 featurettes dealing with the story (Creating a Twisted Web of Intrigue), the actors (The Inspectors Clues to the Crime) and the locations (San Fransisco: Scene of the Crime) and some deleted/extended scenes with optional commentary. In other words, your standard DVD materials. If you enjoyed the movie, they're worth a look - otherwise, they're nothing special.

It's not that Twisted is a complete waste - it's Ashley Judd . If this were any other actress with an ounce of talent, maybe the character would have been a bit more believable and I wouldn't have written this one off before even popping it in my DVD player. But, Judd does have her fans, so for those unfortunates, check this one out. And when you're done, do me a favor and email me and tell me what it is about her that you like - because I just don't see it.
