James Cameron to Film 'Fathom' Comic
Wednesday, September 5, 2001 12:28 PM EDT
According to Variety, "Titanic" director James Cameron will bring the aquatic-themed comic "Fathom" to the big screen.
Cameron's Lightstorm Entertainment will develop and produce a live-action version of the Top Cow comic. Created by Michael Turner, it follows the adventures of a young woman found aboard an abandoned yacht. She becomes a champion swimmer and marine biologist but gradually discovers she possesses super powers, the report said.
The rights had initially been purchased by Fox Animation two years ago, but when the studio cut back on animated projects, Fox brought it to Cameron as a feature project.
Top Cow has lately inked Hollywood deals with "Matrix" producer Joel Silver for "Inferno," MGM for a John Woo directed version of "The Cleaner," and Fox for "The A-Team". It also landed a second season of the comic-maker's TNT TV series "Witchblade."
