'Harry Potter' Trailer on the Web
Thursday, March 1, 2001 12:00 AM EST
Author J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter characters have come to life with the posting on the web of the trailer for the upcoming film "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone".
Although both director Chris Columbus ("Mrs. Doubtfire") and the film's production have been besieged by criticism and doubt, the trailer seems to suggest that the almost Gothic tone of Rowling's popular novels has been captured.
Alongside Dickensian scenes of Potter's classes at Hogwart's School are some sweeping sequences of magic and action, although a shortage of elaborate scenes in the trailer is likely due to the fact that the film isn't due in theatres until November 16th.
In fact, the BBC reports the film, which stars Julie Walters ("Billy Elliot"), Richard Harris ("Gladiator") and newcomer Daniel Radcliffe in the title role, will continue shooting into mid-July.
The producers have had to request an extension of Radcliffe's absence from school to accommodate the production, which is running behind due to bad weather delays. Shooting began last September, the BBC said.
