'Harry Potter' Starts Filming This Week
Wednesday, September 20, 2000 12:00 AM EDT
Filming on the movie version of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone", the first of the best-selling children's books begins this week, EmpireOnline.com reports.
The first scenes to be shot are expected to take place on the London "tube", which could represent Harry and his friends travelling to their magical school known as Hogwarts.
Young fans of the "Harry Potter" series may be confused with the news that Harry's journey to school will take place on the subway since in the book, he stood at the above-ground station at the 9 3/4 platform at King's Cross.
As previously reported, the magical boy known as Harry will be played by 11-year-old Daniel Radcliffe, who had the title role in BBC's version of "David Copperfield".
The roles of Harry's two friends, Ron and Hermione, will be played by Rupert Grint, 11, and Emma Watson, 10, both of whose previous acting credits are limited to school plays.
Actors Richard Harris and Alan Rickman are still trying to decide whether they will take the roles of Dumbledore and Snape, respectively.
