Connery in "Josiah's Canon"
Friday, April 30, 2004 9:55 AM EDT
Sean Connery has come aboard to star in "Josiah's Canon" for 20th Century Fox. Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct.
Fox is aiming to begin shooting the bank caper pic this fall in New York and on location in Europe, though it does not have an official start date.
The dramatic heist story concerns a Holocaust survivor (Connery) who leads the world's foremost team of bank robbers.
The criminal mastermind sets his sights on an supposedly impenetrable bank in Switzerland, which holds special appeal - it purportedly houses money deposited by Jews before the Holocaust.
Fox 2000 acquired King's spec in 1996; in the years since, numerous directors have circled the project, with Brad Silberling, Ridley Scott, Tony Scott and Mimi Leder all attached to helm at various points.
Top stars have also flirted with it including Warren Beatty, Michael Douglas, Dustin Hoffman and Al Pacino.
