'Potter' Books Roar Back To Top Of Charts
Friday, November 9, 2001 12:38 PM EST
The fast-approaching release of the film version of "Harry Potter And The Sorcerer's Stone" has unleashed a new wave of Harry-mania in the U.K.
The BBC reports that, despite months dominating the best-selling book lists, author J.K. Rowling's books have rushed back into the top rank in advance of the film's November 16th release.
Rowling's books have sold 100 million copies world-wide already, but the hype surrounding the movie has triggered renewed sales. The five-year-old "Sorcerer's Stone," which is published in the U.K. (and Canada) as "Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone," is at #1, having sold 53,841 in the past week, the report said.
Book two, "Harry Potter And The Chamber Of Secrets," and book four, "Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire," are in second and third place, while a special edition of "Philosopher's Stone" is at #4. Book three, "Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban," is in at #5.
"It is wonderful news and we are just delighted," a spokeswoman for publishers Bloomsbury Publishing told the BBC. "It is quite funny to have the top five spots considering there are only four Harry Potter stories so far".
