According to Deadline Hollywood, Zachary Quinto will play composer George Gershwin in an upcoming biopic for DreamWorks. Born in 1898, Gershwin wrote more than a dozen Broadway shows along with his brother Ira. He developed a brain tumor and died in 1937 at age 38.

The project is reportedly one of a trio that Steven Spielberg is looking to direct. He most recently directed Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull in 2008 and will be back in theaters in 2011 with The Adventures of Tintin starring Jamie Bell.

As for Quinto, there was a bit of a stir online last week when he reportedly said he would be stepping away from the role of Spock in Star Trek. He later cleared up the miscommunication on his official blog saying that he would not be “making any public appearances related to the franchise” but that he was still committed to appear in the sequel which is planned for a June 2012 release.
