Owen Wilson Voicing Marmaduke

Owen Wilson will voice Marmaduke in Fox’s upcoming movie based on the long-running comic strip.
The movie, which will mix live-action and computer-animation, will follow a family named the Winslows who move from Kansas to Orange County with their Great Dane Marmaduke, who creates chaos wherever he goes. Judy Greer, Lee Pace and William H. Macy will play the humans while voices will be provided by the likes of Fergie, Emma Stone, George Lopez, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Steve Coogan, Damon Wayans and Marlon Wayans. Tom Dey will direct the movie which is scheduled to hit theaters June 2010.
Wilson last starred in the similarly dog-themed Marley and Me — also for Fox. He’s back in theaters later this month providing voice work in Fantastic Mr. Fox.

I think it’s going to be mainly voice work for Owen Wilson from now on … He’s pretty much too strung out for live-action. Pretty sad, really …
Marmaduke doesn’t talk, does he? I kind of thought that was part of the strip’s appeal – that it relies on his actions and not his thoughts (and wise-ass remarks). I get the feeling this will be less faithful to the strip and more like Garfield as a dog.
Surprise no one’s working on a Family Circus movie.
I agree. I don’t remember Marmaduke ever talking. Seems odd to make a movie where he talks.
