Denzel Washington Drops Unstoppable
**Updated** Looks like Fox doesn’t want to give up on Unstoppable just yet. Variety is now reporting that the studio has gone back to Denzel Washington with a new offer in hopes he might reconsider.
A couple of weeks ago, it was revealed that the Fox thriller Unstoppable, to be directed by Tony Scott and starring Denzel Washington, was coming to a stop over budget concerns. Today comes news from Variety that Denzel has left the project altogether.
Production was scheduled to begin this fall, but Fox was apparently taking their time setting the budget and shooting schedule, leaving Washington uncertain if the project would come together. He was asked to cut his $20 million fee, but declined and instead chose to look for something else to fill his schedule.
In the movie, Washington would have been playing an experienced train engineer who must team with a newbie conductor (Chris Pine) to stop a runaway train that is carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals.
The movie would’ve marked the 5th collaboration between Scott and Washington. They most recently made The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, which has earned a relatively disappointing $61 million since opening in June.
