Soderbergh Making 3-D CleopatraSteven Soderbergh is looking to direct Cleo, a 3-D live-action rock ’n’ roll musical about Cleopatra starring Catherine Zeta-Jones in the title role and Hugh Jackman as her lover, Marc Antony.

The project, which would be Soderbergh’s first full-blown musical, will include music written by the indie rock band Guided by Voices. James Greer, a former bass player for the band and an author, wrote the script. Sodergergh will be looking for financing and distribution within the next couple of weeks. The project is budgeted at $30 million.

Soderbergh is next in theaters with Che starring Benicio Del Toro. He recently completed work on The Informant starring Matt Damon and is attached to direct Damon and Michael Douglas in a movie about Liberace. Finally, he’s also directing The Girlfriend Experience starring adult film star Sasha Grey.
