Hancock Tops Box Office
Hancock was the top movie at the box office for the holiday weekend earning an estimated $66 million from Friday to Sunday. The movie, starring Will Smith, Jason Bateman and Charlize Theron, has earned $107.3 million since opening on Tuesday. The movie represents the 2nd biggest opening of Smith’s career after I Am Legend in late 2007.
In 2nd spot at the box office was WALL-E which earned $33.4 million — a 47% drop from last weekend’s opening gross. After 2 weekends in release, the movie has earned $128 million.
Falling to 3rd spot was Wanted which lost nearly 60% of its audience from last weekend, earning $20.6 million. The movie, starring James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie, has earned $90.7 million in two weekends of release.
Rounding out the top 5 films were Get Smart in 4th with $11.1 million ($98.1 million to-date) and Kung Fu Panda in 5th with $7.5 million (193.3 million to-date).
Next weekend’s new releases include Hellboy 2: The Golden Army directed by Guillermo del Toro, Journey to the Center of the Earth starring Brendan Fraser, and the Eddie Murphy comedy Meet Dave.
