George Carlin (1937-2008)
Is it just me, or are a lot of people dying this year?! Comedian George Carlin died of heart failure at a Los Angeles-area hospital on Sunday.
Carlin was a stand-up comic who will probably best be remembered for his “Seven Words You Can Never Say On Television” comedy routine. He appeared on the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” in 1975. He was high on cocaine at the time. His work also includes 3 best-selling books, 4 Grammy Awards, 22 comedy albums and 14 HBO television specials among other things. He’ll be remembered to movie fans for his roles in the “Bill & Ted” as well as roles in a few Kevin Smith movies, including “Dogma” and “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”. In 2006, Carlin provided voice work as the hippie Volkswagen bus Fillmore in “Cars” for Disney/Pixar.
Carlin was admitted at Saint John’s Health Center in Santa Monica on Sunday after experiencing chest pains. He died about 6pm PDT (9pm EDT). He was 71.
