Sex and the City Tops Box Office

Sex and the City was the top movie at the box office, far exceeding expectations and earning an estimated $55.7. The movie, a continuation of the HBO series, stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.
Falling to 2nd spot and dropping more than 50% of its audience from last weekend was Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Starring Harrison Ford and directed by Steven Spielberg, the 4th movie in the famed film franchise has now earned in excess of $215 million at the domestic box office.
The weekend’s only other major release was the horror thriller The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman. The movie drew the male audience which avoided “sex” (for the first time in their lives) and earned a somewhat respectable $20 million.
Rounding out the top 5 films were Iron Man (4th) with $14 million — $276 million to date — and The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian (5th) with $13 million — $115 million to date.
Next weekend’s new releases include the animated Kung Fu Panda starring Jack Black and You Don’t Mess with the Zohan starring Adam Sandler.
