Sacha Baron Cohen on Trial
According to a report in London’s Sunday Times, Sacha Baron Cohen is in talks to play Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago Seven to be directed by Steven Spielberg.
The movie follows the protesters who disrupted the 1968 Democrat party convention with an anti-Vietnam war “carnival” that turned nasty. Demonstrators threw bricks, police responded with tear gas and the center of Chicago was engulfed in flames. The protesters were accused of inciting a riot and Hoffman was jailed for contempt, leaving the other protesters to fight the charges. Aaron Sorkin was brought on board to write the script back in July.
However, it is unclear what Spielberg’s next project will be. He is attached to an Abraham Lincoln movie (with Liam Neeson set to star) as well as one of the films in the planned Tintin trilogy which he’ll also produce with Peter Jackson. Cohen is currently in theaters in Sweeney Todd.
