Lethal Weapon Again?

Rumours have once again resurfaced that Warner Bros. is trying to resurrect the Lethal Weapon franchise. Apparently, with the success of Rocky Balboa and Live Free or Die Hard, the studio is seeing dollar signs in their eyes if another Lethal Weapon movie is made. The only thing really holding it up at this point? Mel Gibson. Apparently the drunk, sexist, bigot isn’t keen on playing Martin Riggs again. He wasn’t crazy about doing Lethal Weapon 4. And he doesn’t want to do Lethal Weapon 5. Unfortunately for Mel, at this point in his drunken career, Lethal Weapon 5 might be the best move he could possibly make. Mel just happens to be one of the most talented directors in the world at this moment but his movie Apocalypto failed miserably and despite the fact that it was probably the best movie of 2007, it didn’t come close to getting any major awards or accolades (besides being the #1 movie on my top 10 list, for which Mel should be very humbled). If Mel wants to continue to direct and continue to make movies, he has to win back some public support and what better way to do it than to play the character that made him the lovable and famous guy that he once was.

So there you have it. Lethal Weapon 5 has a partial script or at least an idea ready to go. Mel doesn’t want to do it. But he’s painted himself into a corner where he might not have too much of a choice. Expect to hear more news about this in the very near future.
