Movie Review: I Now Pronounce You Chuck and LarryI Now Pronounce You Chuck And Larry stars Adam Sandler as Chuck and Kevin James as Larry, two completely straight firefighters who pretend to be a gay couple. Larry’s wife has recently died and by being in a relationship, he ensures that his two children will get his benefits. The lovely couple thinks that, by signing a few forms and acting the role for a couple of weeks, everything will be fine. Unfortunately, city officials demand more proof to make sure the guys aren’t trying to pull the wool over their straight eyes. So Chuck and Larry do their best to come off as a couple of turd burglars, doing everything short of having anal intercourse. They also retain a stunningly beautiful attorney named Alex (Jessica Biel), who the womanizer Chuck has a real hard time keeping his greasy gay hands off of.

Chuck and Larry is a movie that has a lot of positives and some negatives. It is a funny movie and there are many laugh out loud moments and some pretty good chemistry between Sandler and James. Seeing Jessica Biel in her bra and panties for what seemed like and eternity (but still not long enough) was the highlight of the night. The supporting cast is good but Ving Rhames is brilliant. He’s just hilarious in almost every scene in which he appears.

As for the bad, well, it seems like I’ve been saying this about a lot of movies lately but this movie was way too long. It clocks in at more than 2 hours and for me, that’s way too long for a silly comedy. It resulted in too many jokes that just didn’t work and a feeling that the movie was dragging a bit towards the end. The whole story involving Larry’s son probably could have been edited out. The courtroom scene in the end wasn’t anything special. And what was with the chain that Chuck had around his neck?

Overall, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry has its moments without a doubt. I wouldn’t say it’s the best Sandler movie. It’s not as good as something like Happy Gilmore or Click (yeah that’s right, I liked Click) but not as bad as, let’s say, Little Nicky. At this point in his career, you pretty much know what you’re getting when it comes to Sandler and this type of movie. There’s lots of goofiness and plenty of short appearances by Sandler’s wack pack. It may not always be pretty but for the most part, it’s funny. (7 out of 10)
