The Fighter Ready to Put On The Gloves
It looks like The Fighter is putting the final touches on some casting and directing decisions and will be ready to get in the ring in the very near future. According to MTVMoviesBlog.com, director Darron Aronofsky, who was rumoured to be the movie’s director, has now been confirmed. In a recent interview with the website, Mark Wahlberg claimed that at this point, they just need to “sit down with Matt and just figure out when we can start it.”
The Fighter will once again bring together The Departed’s Wahlberg and Matt Damon to tell us the story of underdog boxing champion “Irish” Micky Ward (Wahlberg), his trainer/brother Dick Eklund (Damon) and their rise from the rough streets of Lowell, Massachusetts to the squared-ring for a match to be the champion of the world.
According to Wahlberg, Damon, himself and Aronofsky better get their tuxedos ready because they’ll be making a trip to the Oscars in a couple of years. “These guys, they have the story. Their lives are incredible. The things that they went through, and the things they overcame and endured, it’s one of those amazing stories that I hope I get an opportunity to tell in my career. It’s going to be one of them gems.”
