Audiences Continue to Peek at Disturbia
Two Oscar winners were not enough to displace up and comer Shia LaBeouf from his stronghold at the box office this weekend.
Disturbia, the teen thriller that has been described as a loose remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window, continued to be the top box office draw this weekend, with total domestic ticket sales of $13.5 million.
Fracture, the adult thriller starring Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter (oops) – I mean Ted Crawford – and Ryan Gosling enjoyed a decent opening weekend with box office sales of $11.2 million.
Vacancy, the weekend’s other new thriller, was not quite as fortunate but managed to take the fourth place spot with box office sales of $7.6 million.
Will Ferrell’s Blades of Glory continued to cling to the top five, taking third place with box office sales of $7.8 million.
Meet the Robinsons, Disney’s latest animated release, took the fifth spot with sales of $7.1 million.
Check back here next week to see if Nicolas’ Cage’s new release, Next, finds its way into the top five or whether the fact that its studio’s PR department forgot that they were releasing a new movie next weekend translates into box office disappointment.
