Christopher Walken in Hairspray
Christopher Walken will replace Jim Broadbent playing Wilbur Turnblad in Adam Shankman’s Hairspray for New Line Cinema.
Walken joins a cast that includes John Travolta, Queen Latifah, Amanda Bynes, Michelle Pfeiffer, James Marsden, Zac Efron and Nikki Blonsky. Shooting starts next month in Toronto from a script by Leslie Dixon.
Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman wrote the “Hairspray” score. They will provide several new tunes for the movie. In addition to directing, Shankman will also serve as choreographer on the film’s dance numbers.
Walken recently completed Man of the Year with Robin Williams. His upcoming credits also include the Ping Pong spy comedy Balls of Fury.
