Universal Making Missy Elliott Biopic
Showing just how stupid I am when it comes to music, I have no idea who Missy Elliott is. I’ve heard her name, but really, I couldn’t point her out if my life depended on it. (To be honest, when I first read this story I though Missy Elliott was in prison. I had to do a little fact checking to find out that it’s actually Lil’ Kim who’s in the clink serving a year sentence for perjury.)
Getting on with the story, Universal Pictures is planning a Missy Elliott biopic, acquiring rights to a pitch by Dianne Houston based on Elliott’s life. Robert De Niro and Jane Rosenthal will produce through their Tribeca Films.
Born in Portsmouth, Va., in 1971, Elliott began her musical career with the girl group Sista. She then segued to a producing career before breaking out as a solo artist more than 10 years ago. She writes and produces much of her own music. (Check out Wikipedia for a more complete biography.)
Elliott previously had a role in Honey with Jessica Alba.
