Screen Gems Planning Resurrection
Sony’s Screen Gems is planning to bring The Resurrection to the big screen for an Easter 2007 release.
The Resurrection will tell the story of Jesus Christ beginning the day he died on the cross and ending about 40 days later with his ascension into heaven. According to the Bible, women who visited the tomb of Jesus Christ three days after his crucifixion found it empty, and his disciples and other acquaintances, including Mary Magdalene, encountered him postresurrection on various occasions during a 40-day period. Screen Gems commissioned a script several months ago from Lionel Chetwynd.
You’ve gotta wonder why this movie is coming out. Is it because the story needs to be told? Or is it because Mel Gibson’s The Passion became a box office phenom after it was released Easter weekend a few years ago? Is The Resurrection a “passion” project or is the only “passion” here money?
