Amanda Bynes Joining Hairspray
Amanda Bynes has signed on to star opposite John Travolta in the upcoming adaptation of Hairspray.
In the movie, Bynes will play Penny Pingleton, the best friend of Tracy Turnblad (who has yet to be cast). Travolta is attached to play Edna Turnblad while Queen Latifah will also star in the film as Motormouth Maybelle. Adam Shankman will direct for New Line Cinema. Marc Shaiman will be writing new songs for the theatrical adaptation. Shaiman previously won a Tony for Hairspray on Broadway. Shooting is set to begin later this year for a holiday 2007 release.
Bynes most recently starred in She’s the Man for DreamWorks.
