Del Toro/Cuaron Making The Witches
Guillermo del Toro will team with fellow Mexican director Alfonso Cuaron on an English-language adaptation of Ronald Dahl’s 1973 book The Witches.
In the movie, a seven-year-old boy has a run-in with some real-life witches. Del Toro will direct from his own screenplay. Cuaron will produce. The story was previously made into a movie in 1989 by director Nicolas Roeg. Other Dahl stories that have made their way to the big screen include James and the Giant Peach and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth is currently showing at Cannes. His upcoming projects include Killing on Carnival Row and Hellboy II. Cuaron is currently in post-production on Children of Men with Clive Owen and Julianne Moore.
