Columbia Lands McElwain StoryColumbia Pictures has landed the rights to bring the story of Jason McElwain to the big screen.

McElwain, a 17-year-old senior at Greece Athena High School, entered his school basketball team’s last game with four minutes remaining and scored 20 points including a school record-tying six hoops from 3-point range. But what makes his story extraordinary is that McElwain has been medically diagnosed as being autistic. (Check out a video clip here.)

Immediately following his remarkable performance on the court, several studios came calling including Universal, New Line and the Weinstein Co. McElwain’s busy schedule has also included a photo opportunity with President Bush, attending the NCAA Final Four and recently taping an appearance on “Oprah”.

Magic Johnson is on board to executive produce.
