Mark Wahlberg Owns the Night
Mark Wahlberg will reteam with Joaquin Phoenix and director James Gray with We Own the Night.
The movie will be set at the height of a bloody 1980s struggle between New York police and a Russian mob that targeted law officers and their families. That led the NYPD to hang “We Own the Night” banners in precinct houses and step up their efforts. Wahlberg and Phoenix play siblings in a cop-dominated family, with Phoenix the black sheep who ends up managing a Russian mob-controlled nightclub. Gray also wrote the script. Shooting will begin next month in New York.
Wahlberg next stars with Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon in Martin Scorsese’s The Departed. Phoenix is up for an Oscar for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk the Line. Wahlberg, Phoenix and Gray previously worked together on the crime drama The Yards.
