When a Stranger Calls Tops Box Office

When a Stranger Calls was the top movie at the Super Bowl weekend box office with an estimated $22 million in ticket sales. The remake of the 1979 semi-classic horror stars Camilla Belle.
Falling to second spot was Big Momma’s House 2. Starring Martin Lawrence, the comedy dropped roughly 52% of its audience since opening last weekend with $13.4 million.
Faring relatively well in its second weekend, Nanny McPhee starring Emma Thompson earned $9.9 million in 3rd place. After 2 weekes of release, the Universal comedy has earned $26.6 million.
Breaking into the top five films at 4th was Ang Lee’s Brokeback Mountain which earned $5.6 million. Starring Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, the multiple Oscar nominee has earned $59.7 million after 9 weeks of release.
In 5th, the Weinstein animated comedy Hoodwinked earned $5.3 million. Featuring the voices of Anne Hathaway, Glenn Close and Jim Belushi, the movie has earned $44 million in 8 weeks.
Rounding out the top ten were Underworld: Evolution (6th) with $5.1 million, Something New (7th) with $5.0 million, Annapolis (8th) with $3.4 million, Walk the Line (9th) with $3.4 million and Glory Road (10th) with $3.0 million.
Next week’s new releases include Firewall, Final Destination 3, Curious George and The Pink Panther.
