Penguin Spoof for Bob Saget
Let’s put this in perspective. The last time Bob Saget was “in” (if you can even say that) the Olsen twins were roughly 8 years old. Frankly, I never thought I’d hear from the guy again, let alone write a news item about him.
News today that Saget will write and produce Farce of the Penguins, a spoof of the hit documentary March of the Penguins for Thinkfilm. The movie is being described as a “comedic adventure” combining “wildlife photography with an irreverent and decidedly R-rated theme and soundtrack”. The movie is scheduled for release next spring.
“The idea for this came organically,” said Saget. “I was watching the ’March’ movie at a screening at my friend’s house, and I couldn’t stop doing the voiceovers of the penguins, reminiscent of when I did the voices of the animals on ’America’s Funniest Home Videos’. My friend David Permut said, there’s a great comedy movie in this.”
Saget most recently appeared in ThinkFilm’s comedy documentary The Aristocrats.
March of the Penguins, due on DVD later this month, currently sits at No. 2 on the all-time earners list for documentaries with more than $76 million to date.
