Mike Myers Visits Moon
Mike Myers will star as The Who’s drummer Keith Moon in an as-yet untitled film for Spitfire Pictures.
Roger Daltrey, who has been working with Spitfire on the project on and off for about 10 years, will produce. The film is currently on the fast track and a director will be set shortly.
Moon’s penchant for destroying drum sets while bandmate Pete Townshend smashed his guitars helped to forge The Who’s rebellious image. Moon was just as wild offstage, living large and trashing hotel rooms and cars. The lunacy nearly overshadowed an instinctive power drumming skill that fueled The Who. The hard living caught up to Moon, who died in 1978.
Myers, who last appeared onscreen in The Cat in the Hat, previously flirted with the Moon project but was so busy with Austin Powers In Goldmember that the project never came together. According to sources close to the deal, he is eager to make it happen now.
The film is the second Who project at Spitfire who are currently working on the feature documentary My Generation: Who’s Still Who.
