Paul Walker Joins ’Flags of our Fathers’
Paul Walker has joined Clint Eastwood’s World War II epic Flags of Our Fathers.
The movie, set against the backdrop of the Battle of Iwo Jima, also stars Ryan Phillippe, Adam Beach and Jesse Bradford. Walker will play a seasoned soldier and a flag raiser. Shooting is scheduled to begin next month in Iceland, Washington, Los Angeles and Chicago.
The movie is based on James Bradley’s book “Flags of Our Fathers: Heroes of Iwo Jima” and was adapted by Paul Haggis, who just collaborrated with Eastwood on Million Dollar Baby.
The battle, which took place in winter 1945, was a turning point in the Pacific theater. In one month, 22,000 Japanese and 26,000 Americans died, and the battle produced one of the most enduring images of WWII – a photograph of U.S. servicemen raising an American flag on the flank of Mount Suribachi, the island’s commanding high point.
Walker next stars opposite Jessica Alba in Into the Blue.
