Leonardo DiCaprio in ’Blood Diamond’
Leonardo DiCaprio may be in search of The Blood Diamond. The Titanic star (will he ever live that movie down?) is in negotiations to star in The Blood Diamond for director Ed Zwick and Warner Bros. Pictures.
The title of the movie refers to precious stones used to finance rebellions, privateers and terrorists. In the movie – set in the midst of Sierra Leone’s horrific civil war in 1999 – DiCaprio would play a smuggler who specializes in the sale of Blood Diamonds who encounters an indigenous Mende farmer whose young son has disappeared. From there, the two men’s fates become linked.
Among DiCaprio’s upcoming projects are The Departed for Martin Scorsese and For Whom the Bell Tolls, both at Warner Bros.
Zwick most recently directed The Last Samurai.
