Underdog Movie Flies to Big Screen
“There’s no need to fear, Underdog is here!”
Disney and Spyglass Entertainment will bring the classic TV cartoon Underdog to the bigscreen as a live-action feature with hopes of turning the property into a franchise.
In the movie, written by Joe Piscatella and Craig A. Williams, a dog named Shoeshine gets superpowers after a lab accident. When he’s adopted by a 12-year-old boy, the two form a bond around the shared knowledge that Shoeshine is really Underdog. Fans can expect to see classic characters including mad scientist Simon Barsinister and Underdog’s love interest, Sweet Polly Purebred.
The Underdog TV show, created by Buck Biggers and Chet Stover, made its debut in 1964 on NBC and ran until 1973. The main character was voiced by Wally Cox. Original episodes have been seen recently on the Cartoon Network.
Spyglass hopes to start production in 2006.
